| History This last lodging place is surrounded with special characteristics, which is one of the few authentic Cortijos (mentioned on the Dictionary by P. Madoz from 1852), painstakingly adapted to suit modern rural lodging. |
|
| Location
The Old Cortijo is placed half-way between El Chorro (10 kilometers) and Campillos (9 kilometers), in the north of the province of Málaga, but very near form the province of Sevilla. The lands of the Old Cortijo de Montero are 266 hectareas. |
Gardens: (Photos)
In the area surrounding the lodgings
we have created a large garden (of about 1 hectarea), where you
will find lots of different trees (pines, eucaliptos, palm-trees,
etc.) We are specially proud of our arboretum, a collection of
over 100 different species organized according to the history of
the evolucion of plants.
Plantations and forests
The rest of the cortijo is a tipical andalucian
farm with (sunflowers, olive trees, etc.). But, also you will
find 30 hectareas of pine (planted more than 30 years ago) and
more than one thousand evergreen oak trees: it's really a
pleasure to walk under the trees in the morning in winter or in
the evening in summer!!!
Near the Old Cortijo de Montero there are
several famous towns such as Ronda (50 km.), Antequera,
Osuna, Arcos de la Frontera, etc., Only a bit further away
you will find Jerez.
If you do not want to make too many kilometers possibly you can
enjoy some surprising and not well known places such as: the
Gaitanes gorge, Fuentedepiedra lake (where thousands of
flamingoes spend the summer), Antequera's Torcal, and, finally,
the large reservoirs of El Chorro (10 kilometers from the Cortijo).
